Bilaspur: Former deputy speaker of Chhattisgarh assembly and former MLA from Lormi, Dharmjeet Singh quit Congress on Monday. In his resignation addressed to party high command, Singh has said that he would work under the leadership of Ajit Jogi.
Speaking to TOI, Singh said that the Congress in the state has become ineffective. Instead of taking on the opposition, Congress raised banner of revolt against Ajit Jogi.
While Jogi will be declaring a war on the ruling BJP in the state from Thathapur, the state Congress will try to do the same against Jogi from Marwahi, he said.
Ever since Ajit Jogi announced to launch a new party, over hundreds of Jogi supporters have quit Congress in the last couple of days. However, Singh is the first senior Congress leader to have resigned from the Congress in Jogi's support. Singh's move to quit Congress didn't spring any surprise as he had been a staunch Jogi supporter all along. However, Siyaram Kaushik, known as a staunch Jogi supporter has still not deserted Congress, Singh announced parting ways from the party on Monday.
Taking a swipe at state PCC chief Bhupesh Baghel, Singh said that Baghel has failed to launch any major campaign against the ruling BJP in the state. All he has done is to target Jogi.
Singh said that there was a strong need of an alternative in the state to effectively oppose the BJP and Jogi would provide the same.
Singh said that the BJP has been ruling the state for the last decade and half but has failed to deliver. It allowed big corporations and conglomerates from outside the state to blatantly exploit the rich minerals from the state without sharing the benefits with the people in any manner. Jogi's new party would oppose the BJP tooth and nail over these issues, he added. So far, the state Congress has failed to oppose anti-people policies of ruling BJP.
Singh also took a potshot at BK Hariprasad, party in-charge of Chhattisgarh and said that Hariprasad's leadership capability can be gauged from the fact that he could not get his brother win on Congress ticket from Bengaluru, Karnataka, which is his home state.
